F-Quad
Fatherhood. Food. Fun. Functions. These four words make up a very large chunk of my life (along with another commonly used F word!).
F-Quad is my place to share interesting things about these four pillars of my life. Interesting and unique facts about being a Parent, the Culinary Arts, Programming, and whatever current hobby has spiked my interest.
Posts will often be sporadic and far between, but with some hope and luck I can at least get some very interesting things posted here!
We’ll start with the title. The idea for F-Quad has been bouncing around in my head on and off for years. I wanted a way to combine my most favorite interests with a cleaver and witty title. Something -Squared or -Cubed was the start, and then… my daughter was born. Trying to continue my favorite hobbies (such as cooking, Lego, and modeling) quickly left me in a place where I realized that Fatherhood was going to take up the vast majority of my time.
So Fatherhood was added. And once that became a part of life it had to be included. That sounds sappy as all get out, but it is the truth. There are things that a Parent experiences that only other parents really understand. I’m not talking about cute things full of “awww.” Rather those moments of pure weirdness and strangeness that you just look at your child and can’t help but laugh at the absurdity of it all.
This was the day I went through the house to get rid of all the bottles and pacifiers we didn’t need anymore.
Food has always been a passion of mine. This formed the second pillar. I was a chef for a decade. I found passion for cooking that sticks with me today, even after I left the industry. I don’t produce the most insane dishes, or those incredibly detailed meals that are balanced on flavors. What I do tend to cook is meals that are favorable, but easy. Quick, but filling. Above all not out of reach of your average home chef.

Fun. Everyone has hobbies - mine just tend to vary and shift, rotate into new things every few weeks or months. It is a symptom of my personality, but one that means while old topics may become dull, there is always something new around the corner that keeps me entertained. At the time of this writing, those thing are Lego and video games. Video games will probably always be represented, but the other subject could change rapidly! Expect to see some show and tell’s
I recently rebuilt this set from my childhood, restoring it as best I could. Who knew that these old toys my parents kept in a dusty attic could bring such joy in my late 30’s!
Function is a representation of programming. As I work my way into a new industry I find that I need some sort of web presence and a repository of things that I have worked on. Plus, programming is one of the things that has always had my interest ever since I was a child. As a pillar of my site, it will certainly give me some great things to write about. I hope to have some Guides, technical thoughts, and other concepts that showcase what I know about code and programming.
Not my code. This is the kind of stuff you find when you just search for ‘Code’ in a free image site. At least this has decent indenting and formatting of white space!
So welcome to F-Quad. And because four letter F words have their own meaning in popular vernacular of our society… well I leave you with the last, not quite so hidden meaning of the site’s title.
